Home Between Horizons
Home Between Horizons
This wood-burned piece, “Home Between Horizons,” captures the quiet strength and unity of nature through the patient process of pyrography. As my very first wood-burning project, it took me a little over a week to complete, during which I also practiced techniques on a separate piece of wood to perfect my approach. I began by sketching the outline directly onto the raw wood slab, making sure to work with the natural grain and bark edges to keep the piece organic and true to its source. Using a wood-burning pen, I slowly built up each feather and branch with careful, layered strokes, bringing texture and depth to the bald eagles and their nesting tree. Each burn mark had to be deliberate — too much pressure or heat could scorch the wood too deeply, while too little would fade into the background. The result is a moment frozen in time: one eagle stands watch over the nest while the other soars freely above, a quiet testament to resilience, partnership, and the enduring wild.
